Installation Procedures
Tear Off
Removing an existing roof is a massive undertaking. Time should be taken to ensure you choose a quality, conscientious contractor that has the skills, management, and resources needed to perform to your expectations.
Overnight Protection
We complete roofs section
by section to ensure proper overnight protection.
Any section not completed at the end of the work day, will be weatherproofed.
Decking
Proper decking products and
installation procedures are an
important feature of your roof.
Lathe boards and using deck clips are also imperative.
Felt Paper
Felt paper’s primary function is
as a vapor barrier, not a water
barrier.
It prevents the decking from expanding on very humid days. During storms, felt paper can
prevent leaks that could occur.
Drip Edge
Drip edge is the “L” shaped metal that is installed around the entire perimeter of the roofline.
Drip edge protects the edges of
the decking.
Shingle Application/Warranty
Proper shingle installation is very important because improper installation will void
the manufacturer’s warranty.
Sewer Pipe Vents
Lead vents are the preferred vent type.
The will last 15-20 years in comparison to the plastic vents, which have a life of 2-3 years.
Gas Heater Vents
Having careful installation procedures are vital to the installation of gas heater vents.
Carbon monoxide is very dangerous and can kill. Please go through the installation procedures with your consultant.
Low Profile Vents
Low profiles are used to vent clothes dryers, stove exhaust fans and bathroom vents.
Our consultants will explain why we use “Slant Backs” vents to properly vent your appliances.
Chimney
Flashings & Caps
Chimney’s are notorious for being susceptible to leaks.
Proper installation of flashings and caps will insure a leak-free roof around your chimney.
Skylights
Skylights are also susceptible to leaking. With the proper installation, they will be leakfree.
Baked on enamel, finished step flashing and pans, ice guard, and insulation to prevent air infiltration, completes a perfect watertight skylight.
Wall Flashings
Water leaking down the inside of a wall can be very damaging to paint, texture, wallpaper and hardwood floors.
The installation of flashing insures a leak-free house.
Valleys
There are two main valley types, Shingled and Open Metal.
Each has a different look and your roofing consultant can help you choose the best choice for your roof.
Ridge Rows
Ridge rows outline a roof’s structure and enhance its architectural beauty.
Most manufactures build high profile ridge rows to match their shingles and they can dramatically change the appearance and curb appeal of your home.
Ventilation
Turbines, Power Vents, Ridge Vents and sometimes Low Profile Vents are used to remove the heat and humidity from the attic area.
Improper roof ventilation will immediately void your roof’ manufacturer’s warranty as well as increase your energy consumption.
